The DPS Lottery

Filed under: Notes from the Road — Huy @ 02:20:42 pm

I went to the DPS today and it was the first I went to the one in Garland. It was a weird experience because it was like waiting to win the lotto. They gave me a number when I came in, and I sat down with 50 other people. Then we watch a monitor looking for our number while a recorded voice announced the number they are currently serving. For kicks, they threw a TV with a bunch of static. It was on Headline News, but truthfully, we were watching more snow than we were watching news.

It has been a long time since I remember waiting in a room for my number to be called, especially with so many people. It was like waiting to win the lotto, except not the lotto. More like waiting for a doctor’s shot.

Anyway it was unique because I didn’t expect the DPS to be so busy that they had a room full of people waiting for their ticket number. Shouldn’t all these people be at work?
